I’m the Energizer Keep Going Blogger for the 2010 Susan G. Komen Tampa 3-Day for the Cure

July 22, 2010 · 9 comments

Last Tuesday, I posted on facebook that I was excited…it was more like “I’m excited I’m excited I’m excited”. People kept asking me why I was excited but I couldn’t announce why officially until now. I have been chosen to be an Energizer Keep Going® Blogger for the Susan G. Komen Tampa 3-Day for the Cure®! Yes, I’m really excited!

First of all, I have always wanted to participate in the 3-Day for the Cure and to be chosen to represent Energizer at the Tampa event, I’m thrilled. Second, I really never thought when I submitted my information, I would ever be chosen. I would like to say thank you to Paula for her help and advice along the way! She is the Chicago Keep Going Blogger, you should check out her blog too. :) And lastly, I hope you’ll follow along on this blog to keep up with my training and how the weekend goes. The event is on October 29-31, 2010. It lasts 3 days and we will walk a total of 60 miles. Each night, we will camp out together. If you’re going to participate in the event, I hope you’ll come out and say hi to me at the Energizer tent on Friday or Saturday night. If you’re not going to participate but live in the area, I hope you’ll come out along the route and cheer on all of the walkers (I’ll post that information when I have it). There will be a ton of breast cancer survivors walking too, so cheer them on!

I have written before on the little kitchen (blog) about my passion for the Susan G. Komen for the Cure organization and the breast cancer cause. It is so dear to me that I even volunteer for my local affiliate of Komen for the Cure. I know some people will think I’m crazy for wanting to walk 60 miles over three days…I think I’m a little crazy too. ;) But there are reasons why I will be walking and fundraising. I will be walking for my grandmother, who is currently in remission. I will be walking for my friend, Pam, who is currently going through chemotherapy treatment for breast cancer, she was diagnosed earlier this year. I will also be walking for my sisters and my nieces so that they will hopefully never have to suffer from breast cancer.

My Grandmother in 2006 while she was going through chemotherapy treatment. Here she is pictured with my Mom and my aunts.

Since 2006, when my grandmother was diagnosed with breast cancer, I have been volunteering with the Central Florida Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure. I love volunteering and I hope you too will be motivated to volunteer for your local affiliate. I’m invigorated and motivated even more every time I’m at an event and I hear a story about someone’s Mom or grandmother. I remember why I volunteer when a woman comes up to me and tells me that she cannot afford a mammogram or that she feels a lump in her breast and doesn’t know what to do.

Every year, I have volunteered and fundraised at the Susan G. Komen Central Florida Race for the Cure® in honor of my grandmother. On the back of my volunteer shirt, I wore a back sign in celebration of her. This year, I will walk in the Central Florida Race for the Cure and the 3-Day for the Cure in celebration of my grandmother and my friend, Pam. I hope you’ll take this journey with me. I will blog about my training for the 3-Day for the Cure as well as during the event. I will also blog about what makes me Keep Going like the Energizer Bunny®, so please feel free to share your stories with me. I would love to share them with everyone reading this blog!

I have been reading up on training and preparing for the 3-Day for the Cure. I have to admit that I’m a little anxious, not knowing what to expect and hoping that I will make it through. :) My goal is to walk the entire 60 miles, I hope I don’t have to use the sweep bus back to camp. But other than that, I’m really excited to participate and I’m really excited to be able to share my journey with you. I have been reading the other Keeping Going bloggers and their blogs are fantastic. Be sure to visit their blogs as well.

Be sure to follow me on facebook and twitter to get updates on my training and my fundraising.

Also, if you would like, you can visit my 3-Day for the Cure participant page to donate towards my fundraising goal. Thank you so much for your generosity, in advance.

Please feel free to comment along the way. Also, if you are participating this year in Tampa or in any city, I want to hear from you! If you have participated in a 3-Day for the Cure event before, I want to hear from you too…any tips or must pack items. I need any advice I can get! :)

Disclosure: Energizer is sponsoring my participation in the 2010 Susan G. Komen Tampa 3-Day for the Cure in return for blogging and vlogging about my training and my participation before and during weekend of the event. They are also providing me with some Energizer goodies, which I will be reviewing from time to time. This post was written by me and the opinions expressed are my own.
